I had a fortunate upbringing in that I learned to read, print, and write (yes, cursive!) before I entered kindergarten. Bedtime stories were a nighttime ritual and reading continues to be a mainstay in all aspects of my life.
I am happy and proud to share the gifts that were bestowed upon me as I write books for young and adult readers, write about writing, and blog about topics that strike a personal and passionate chord with me.
I graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Master’s degree in Special Studies (Art History, Creative Writing, and Photography), a Bachelor’s degree in Art, and a Bachelor’s degree in Art History.
When I step outside of my everyday sphere and comfort zone, a door opens to new, unexpected adventures, and I come away with a greater appreciation for the world and the diverse, amazing people in it. I return home with countless memories and a reminder that we really aren't that different after all.
Baking is a nurturing, caring activity that my mother and grandmother instilled in me. If all goes well, there are yummy results to share with friends and loved ones. The process itself is therapeutic, creative, and provides a tasty respite from the worries of the day.
I love being able to capture a moment, a memory, or a beautiful bit of nature. When something catches my eye, my mind instinctively composes the image, and the camera does the rest. Some I keep, many I share, and a few become treasured keepsakes.
I grew up in a family that nurtured the love of books, the importance of reading, and being read to. I couldn’t have known then, but it was instrumental in my becoming a writer. I write every day in some form or another, creating worlds and relationships where anything and everything is possible.
